Torch Song Trilogy
October 30 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
DAVAR is thrilled to revisit this poignant 1988 comedy-drama. Adapted by Harvey Fierstein from his Broadway play of the same name, the film offers an intimate portrayal of fictional female impersonator, Arnold Beckhoff. From the early 1970s to 1980 (pre-AIDs) we follow the heartbreaks of this lovable drag queen, who, as Roger Ebert (1988) writes, ‘laughs first so that the joke is never on him’. The young Matthew Broderick plays Alan, the love of Arnold’s life and victim of a violent homophobic attack. Anne Bancroft plays Arnold’s Jewish mother who struggles to come to terms with her son’s homosexuality. Join us in viewing this classic on the big screen now, while you can.
